THE SONG FOLKLORE OF THE BULGARIANS IN ALBANIA (GOLO BARDO AND GORA REGIONS) –
TRADITION AND MODERNITY

The article presents and analyzes the song folklore of the communities of two regions in Albania – Golo Bardo and Gora, in its traditional form preserved to this day. Folklore singing is alive among those representatives of the communities living in the villages of the two mountain areas. Elements of the song repertoire have been transferred to the cities and even abroad, where in recent decades the people from the regions of Gora and Golo Bardo have more actively migrated. In both rural and urban contexts, the traditional song can be seen as a pillar of the community identity, declared as Bulgarian (especially by the older interlocutors/ respondents).
At the same time, song culture is a dynamic system that, even in its conservatism, has been undergoing changes, and today the dynamics of the changes is significantly higher. Through the song, however, the persistent dialectal characteristic of the song repertoire is outlined, as well as the traditional social and cultural patterns and normativity inherent in these specific communities in Albania.
