THE MILITARY ACTIONS AT THE SALONIKA FRONT IN 1918 IN THE PUBLICATIONS
OF THE POLISH DAILY NEWSPAPER “CZAS”

Serious problems, which were the result of the protracted war and significantly affected the military potential of the Central Powers and their coalition partners from the end of 1916, were fully revealed at the beginning of 1918. Although in March 1918 they managed to end the operations on the Eastern Front and sign peace treaties with Soviet Russia and Romania, the advantage of the Entente was constantly increasing. This situation was especially dangerous for Bulgaria, which from the spring of 1918 had to fight alone against the overwhelming French, British,
Serbian and Greek forces in Macedonia. Despite attempts by the Bulgarian civil and military authorities to improve the situation, they failed to increase the military potential. Therefore, in the confrontation with the forces of the Entente in the autumn of 1918, the Bulgarian army had to finally suffer defeat. The events unfolding in Bulgaria and Macedonia were closely followed by the European press.
One of the newspapers that devoted much attention to these issues since 1915 was the daily newspaper “Czas”published in Cracow. In the publications of this newspaper, we can find an interesting picture of the then reality and a lot of interesting information about the course of military operations, as well as a lasting trace of the sympathy that Polish journalists had for Bulgaria and the Bulgarians.
